According to legend, Emperor Shah Jahan was so grief–stricken at the death of his wife Mumtaz Mahal that he decided to build a memorial to her which would be unsurpassed in beauty and grandeur. With a huge labour force of around 20,000 people, it took 21 years to complete this masterpiece in white marble.
Visit Agra Fort, a vast museum of interesting buildings started by Emperor Akbar. Each successive Mughal emperor, right up to Aurangzeb, added to the fort. Construction started in 1565 and was completed in 1573.

Drive to explore Fatehpur Sikri – built in 1569 by Mughal Emperor Akbar. This perfectly preserved red sandstone “Ghost Town” was once the capital of the Mughal Empire but was later deserted when its water supply failed.
Evening free to explore the bazaars of Agra. You can shop for famous marble handicrafts, inlay work and local souvenirs.
Transfer to Agra railway station to board your superfast train back to Delhi. Dinner will be served on board.
